The Financial Controller/Bursar will report directly to the President with direct oversight of Budget, Internal Financial Controls to Government Accounting Standards, Full Charge Bookkeeping, Financial Reporting, Program-level Accounting, Student Business Services and E-Commerce for CIHS. The Financial Controller/Bursar serves as an institutional catalyst, stimulating sound financial management practices across the organization that support both change and the achievement of the strategic and financial objectives of the school. They will oversee efficiencies and proper disciplines to assure best practices. They also will serve as a role model for how to engage a variety of individuals with different perspectives to develop creative solutions within identified resources.


Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for a combined role of CFO and Financial Controller.

Essential Functions

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum Qualifications:

· A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business or a related field is required. An advanced degree in a relevant field is highly desirable.

· At least five years of experience in bookkeeping and financial control, demonstrating financial leadership and increasing responsibility over the course of the career.

· Ability to use a variety of accounting/financial software applications such as databases, spreadsheets, etc.

· Proficient in QuickBooks.

· Highly proficient in MS Excel.

· Experience in higher education administration preferable.


Duties and Responsibilities Include:

1. Assures compliance with GAAP principles, and procedures, as well as university accreditation standards, and government accounting standards (GAS).

2. Responsible for cash-flow planning, financial reporting, data analysis and problem solving

3. Directs the daily administration and activities of the university’s accounts receivable and third-party billing system

4. Oversees the Bursar’s function and ensures the financial integrity of university bursing operations.

5. Performs data reconciliation, consolidation, and analysis of financial data to create a coherent and easy-to-understand financial summary

6. Prepares and supervises the preparation of GAGAS accounting audit workpapers for the fiscal year audit by researching and analyzing the year-to-date accounting information.

7. Partners with the President to develop recommendations to drive financial performance and assist senior leadership to meet strategic goals and objectives for future business growth

8. Interfaces with vendors, including but not limited to auditors, tax consultants, custodian and commercial banks

9. Works closely with members of the university community to ensure a high level of support and service in all areas of responsibility and provides consultative assistance in the interpretation of financial and budget information.

10. Supervises HR Manager position as a direct report.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.
