Development Activities

  • Development plan. Support the execution of an integrated fund development plan in partnership with the Development committee including work plans to support a diverse set of fundraising strategies that advance CIHS mission.

  • Fundraising. Help execute and project-manage fundraising campaigns, including direct response appeals, digital campaigns, solicitation materials (including proposals / grants), and donor cultivation plans.

  • Individual Donors. Manage donor database in partnership with Chief Financial Officer, including inputting and updating donor information; entering and processing all gifts received and ensuring they are coded correctly; tracking and analyzing donor data; and conducting quarterly maintenance to ensure data integrity. Ensure accurate, personalized, and timely donor recognition for gifts. Conduct ongoing research to identify prospective donors and to inform cultivation strategies with current donors.

  • Events. In conjunction with the Director for the Center for Lifelong Learning, Development Counsel, Development Committee and the Board of Directors, the Coordinator will support the planning of public events and key donor events.  The Coordinator will also help develop, secure and coordinate sponsorship cultivation and follow up.

  • Ongoing Donor Engagement. Work with Development Counsel to support donor engagement activities, including coordinating meetings between President, board members, and major donors and preparing materials for donor/ board meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Communications/Marketing

  • Communications plan. Support the implementation of an integrated communications plan in conjunction with the President with supporting work plans and an editorial calendar to promote CIHS mission and critical programs and events.

  • Newsletter and Email. Collaborate with the Dean for Admissions and Marketing to oversee the development and distribution of communications, including e-newsletters to key target audiences, fundraising campaigns, public programming and private events.

  • Website management. Manage and update the CIHS website regularly to ensure brand management information is current and up to date.

  • Social Media/Production. Maintain a regular presence on CIHS social media platforms as necessary, including outreach videos for program goals, podcasts, memes.

  • Impact stories. Write impact stories to capture the experiences of CIHS faculty, staff, students, and other community members to share across all communication channels.

  • Media Strategy. Help identify and follow through on opportunities to share CIHS work with local, regional, national media, and other relevant outlets.

  • External Document Creation. Create external-facing documents and templates for event flyers, graphics, information sheets, promotional documents, and other collateral, as necessary/

  • Branding. Serve as CIHS brand ambassador by ensuring consistent branding and messaging across all communication platforms. Maintain branding guidelines for use by staff and volunteers.

Essential Functions

We seek a collaborative and innovative development and marketing communications coordinator (“DMCC”) to help grow the Institute’s brand and philanthropic reach. This role provides integral coordination for CIHS’ brand management communications, development operations, support for faculty and student recruitment efforts, community building and public programming, and resource development.


The DMCC will work closely with the President, Development Counsel, the Director for the Center for Lifelong Learning, and other members of the team to convey the power of our mission and services to key stakeholders, manage and implement development related functions, create vibrant digital content, support public programs, and increase financial support via various fundraising strategies.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Strong written, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.

  • Ability to oversee and execute digital and print campaigns and manage annual communications calendar.

  • Experience with the following: website management (WordPress preferred, and WIX), CRM database management (Donor Box, Salesforce, Blackbaud, for example), email management (Constant Contact, Mailchimp), social media for business and related analytics (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google My Business), Google Ad Grants; graphic design tools like Canva and adhering to style guide.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel; Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), HTML experience a plus.

  • Excellent organizational skills; must be highly detail-oriented and comfortable working on multiple projects year-round while prioritizing and meeting deadlines.

  • Proven ability to work successfully within a team as well as an independent self-starter in a remote organization committed to mind, body, consciousness.

  • Availability to participate in events and meetings during the week; occasional weekends and evenings is required.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, with 3-5+ years of professional experience, ideally in higher education advancement, non-profit fundraising, marketing, and communications.
