Essential Functions

The Dean for Student Life addresses students’ needs to ensure academic/life balance, wellness awareness, and as an intermediary between the students and the Administration.

  • Dean for Student Life serves as a primary administrative contact, liaison, and advocate for CIHS students. The Dean for Student Life will work directly with students to provide services and programs that enhance student life and wellness.

  • Formulates and reviews policies directly related to students as well as producing a monthly report to the President, and Dean of Academic Affairs, and prepares WSCUC related reports related to accreditation and outcomes assessment as needed.

  • Produces campus communications as necessary to address student needs and services.

  • Ensures compliance with CIHS’ mission and principles, as well as WSCUC and U.S. higher education best practices for accreditation. Commits to site visit meetings for Initial Accreditation and other accreditation meetings as necessary.

  • Serves on the President’s Institutional Effectiveness Committee, and administrative team.

  • Serves as a liaison between the President and student organizations, such as the Student Senate.

  • Oversees and guides co-curricular learning and activities generally.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with assessment of student wellbeing or learning outcomes.

  • Teaching experience at the graduate level.

  • Evidence of recent scholarship.

  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and their application.

  • Local residence in the greater San Diego, CA area.

Education/Experience

  • A graduate degree from an accredited university.

  • Experience in a university administrative role related to student life.

  • Experience with management skills: decision making, collaborative leadership, conflict management, and motivation.

  • Knowledge of, and interest in the intersection of consciousness studies, science of consciousness, healing arts and higher education.

CIHS is approaching Initial Accreditation and is poised to grow its departments. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic person with the skills to manage expansion of the Program and the University in the coming years. The 2.5 acre campus is located in Encinitas, north coastal San Diego County.
