Julie Dargis, Ph.D.

Biography

Currently, Julie serves as Senior Advisor, Global COVID-19 Response for CORE Group, a Washington, DC consortium, promoting the health and wellness of women, children, and adolescents around the world.


In addition to her unique ability to guide people through instability and uncertainty, Dargis is an accomplished writer and poet. At Hermes House Press, she was a copyeditor for full-length manuscripts. As a structural editor, she has tutored graduate students at the California Institute for Human Science since 2016. In addition, she regularly provides in-house support to edit funding proposals, rapid assessments, and mapping documents in her role as a management consultant, and she had also served as the lead writer during the UNICEF Country Office five-year strategic planning process in Ethiopia, drafting official documents for regional and national workshops and crafting political and security reports as required by the regional office.


Julie is the author of five books.  Her newest book, Be Your Own Guru, Meditations on Science and Spirituality as a Pathway to Personal Wellness was released in November 2020.


Skillfully and intuitively navigating organizations and individuals through external and internal conflicts, her expertise includes designing, implementing and evaluating community-based education, training, and capacity-building programs, particularly in regions affected by war and natural disasters.

Julie has held key leadership positions with the International Rescue Committee, the American Refugee Committee, and Save the Children where she accepted multiple subsequent assignments as country director in Chad, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Indonesia, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and South Sudan.


Her overseas postings include serving as an active member of the NGO Forum Steering Committee and NGO delegate on the Oversight Committee of the Multi-donor Trust Fund.


A former U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco, Julie has a long history working with renowned non-governmental organizations (NGOs) such as World Learning, where she successfully directed country programs in Serbia, Bulgaria, and Georgia,  and managed multimillion-dollar USAID and World Bank-funded grants.


PUBLICATIONS

Pit Stop in the Paris of Africa (2013) is a collection of essays and verse highlighting Julie's most memorable experiences from her work overseas.

White Moon in a Powder Blue Sky (2016) considers the subtle sciences through the application of quantum physics and "thought experiments" to promote personal, professional, and spiritual growth.
