TESTIMONIALS

Finding CIHS has been a dream come true.  Spirituality and education have always been an important part of my life, I was very happy when I found that California Institute for Human Science (CIHS) offered academic programs that blended spirituality with scientific thought.

I was born and lived my first 6 years in Estonia, historically a highly literate country.  Therefore, the pursuit of higher education was always a given.  However, formal education was not always possible.  Having left Estonia at age six, as a child of war, I spent the next 6 years in numerous displaced person camps with sporadic educational opportunities, finishing the fifth grade in one of them.  After arriving in my beloved America, my formal education continued here as an eighth grader and my enthusiasm of learning continues to this day.

Prior to entering CIHS three years ago to earn my doctorate in Human Science, I had a somewhat sporadic higher education with degrees earned in several states over several years.  It began in Oklahoma, after graduation from high school, marriage, the blessing of 2 children, my formal education continued with a BS in Health Education and a Masters in Student Personnel earned in New Jersey. Teaching, counseling, founding the Center for Personal Effectiveness and a few moves, I earned a BSN and obtained a nursing license in Texas.  A few moves later my husband retired in southern California, where I earned a Minister’s License and also found CIHS.

I was selective about the focus of the PhD and the principles and objectives of the University I wanted to attend.  It took some time for me to investigate the schools in the area.  When I discovered that CIHS was actually founded on the principle of bridging the spiritual and scientific, I knew I had found the school.  I started in January of 2001 and was conferred the degree of PhD in Human Science in January 2004.

An intense and thrilling journey this PhD at CIHS, with a varied and very amazing and accomplished faculty guiding and inspiring the way.  The staff and student body are a small version of the United Nations, comprised of bright, interested, involved and sharing individuals, many of whom I expect to remain my friends long after my student days.  I feel blessed indeed.

I was not your typical student when I attended CIHS.  I may have been the oldest student attending classes.  It was an outstanding experience and I enjoyed the opportunity to learn and explore.

My undergraduate degree was in Business Administration/Accounting.  Upon graduation I became an Internal Revenue Agent in Portland, Oregon.  I was the second women field agent hired in Oregon.  About three years later  I attended law school in San Diego, graduating with a Juris Doctorate and practiced tax law for twenty years.

After I retired, I decided to obtain a Master’s Degree in Psychology.  CIHS was my choice because of the opportunity it offered for innovative approaches to human science.  CIHS was recommended by a close friend who has two masters and a doctorate degree in Psychology from very prestigious universities.  Another friend widely respected in the scientific world investigated Dr. Motoyama’s Institute in Japan on my behalf and gave it his unqualified approval.  I was not disappointed.

I am continuing to study sound therapy as an approach to healing.  CIHS was my first exposure to this modality.  It is a fascinating field and it appears to offer future potential.
