It
is my honor to welcome you to CIHS. We are a
Graduate
School
and Research Center that is dedicated to the
developing understanding of the integration of
mind/body/spirit. CIHS presents a unique
opportunity to progressive students who wish to
fulfill their academic pursuits in an environment
that promotes the blending of rigorous scientific
research and the spiritual nature of what Dr.
Motoyama refers to as “The Whole Human Being.” |
Such an
Institute, built on Dr. Motoyama’s
eight principles, embodies a bold step forward beyond
belief systems. We are here, as Dr. Motoyama states, “To
Establish a Creative Science which Researches the Mind and
Soul as well as Matter.” To that effect, we encourage
students who are as much interested in their own meditation
and spiritual pursuits as in serious scientific research and
investigation.
Our
endeavors are to provide the student leading-edge academic
programs and research opportunities in the fields of
psychology, life physics, integral health and comparative
religion and philosophy. We have the onsite research
facilities to study ki energy, psi energy, energy medicine
and related disciplines.
The
AMI (Apparatus for Meridian Identification) is an
invention of Dr. Motoyama’s that precisely measures the ki
flow of energy along the meridians. It has been in use both
clinically and as an investigational tool in Japan for many
years, and has been in use at CIHS since 1992 as a research
instrument into subtle energy.
CIHS now
has an
Online Journal, a semi-annual publication that focuses
on scientific research and development into the fields of
psi energy, ki energy, and energy medicine, as well as
related disciplines. I encourage you to review our recently
released first issue.
In the near
future, we will be offering more online courses, a virtual
campus, and webcast/podcast opportunities for the many
students who wish to study at CIHS but cannot physically
attend.
I am most
excited for your interest, and welcome your inquiries and
attendance at CIHS.
Dean of Academic Affairs' Address
Elizabeth Newby-Fraser,
Ph.D.
Director, School of Psychology

As CIHS progresses into its second
decade, we continue to promote Dr. Motoyama’s vision of an
academic institution presenting truly integral learning
devoted to combining the intellectual insights of Eastern and
Western traditions as they apply to human well being. We are
attempting to ensure that the courses offered are at the
forefront of academic knowledge and are taught by learner
centered core faculty that creates an environment conducive to
dialogue and individual expression.
To offer relevant and innovative
programs and courses, the focus is on providing for
professional aspirations, as well as opportunities for
personal and spiritual enrichment in a learning atmosphere
that will provide transformational experiences. The school
encourages groundbreaking research that probes the mind body
spirit connections, which is central to our mission, and we
are able provide unique facilities for students interested in
this area of research.
To broaden our scope we are
developing ties with likeminded community organizations and
groups to ensure our programs remain meaningful and relevant
to our immediate and broader social environment. Our expanding
online student population keeps us in touch with a wider
spectrum of ideas and contexts around the country and beyond.
We invite you to join us for a learning
experience that explores diversity and interconnectedness, and
which can be individualized to meet particular needs and
interests.
