Integral Health Program

The idea of Human Science is based upon Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama’s model of human life as tridimensional, that is, as a synergistic, integrated complex composed of body-mind-spirit. Each dimension or realm is ontologically real in its own right and irreducible to something more basic, and the three realms acting together comprise human existence. Thus human existence in its wholeness cannot be grasped by the study of one or two realms alone, no matter how sophisticated or prolonged such study may be. The Integral Health program offers an educational opportunity to approach questions concerning aspects of human life tridimensionally, which amounts to holistically. Note that the social dimension of life enters into study through a realistic appreciation of the individual’s embeddedness in linguistic and social practices when “mind is the object of investigation, and social institutions and culture when religion is the object of investigation. The overall aim of the Integral Health Program is to prepare the student for original research of a distinctly holistic and integrative nature.
